While You Sleep (Poem)

Sometimes when you sleep
I marvel in the wonders of your ways
I think of all the memories we’ve made today…
While you sleep.

Sometimes when you sleep
I see your perfection before my eyes
I think about how blessed I am for such a prize
While you sleep.

I close my eyes and listen to you breathe
I pinch myself and think “is this a dream?”
But you’re the one whose dreaming here
And I’m a lucky mama, little dear
For I’m a lucky mama, little dear.

Sometimes when you sleep
I wonder how the time goes by so fast
I want to capture all of this and make it last
While you sleep.

Sometimes when you sleep
I try and disregard what all needs done
I tell myself I’ll get to it, but watching you is fun
While you sleep.

I close my eyes and listen to you breathe
I pinch myself and think “is this a dream?”
But you’re the one whose dreaming here
And I’m a lucky mama, little dear

For I’m a lucky mama, little dear.
